Are you Ready?
Over the course of our lifetimes, things happen to us.
Sometimes, those things are traumatic, and whether they are single incidents that affect us powerfully, prolonged occurrences like domestic violence or abuse, or repeated exposures to multiple distressing events, the resulting trauma can stay with us for a very long time.
In order to protect us, our nervous systems click into high gear, causing us to fight, flee, freeze or collapse. When we get too far along this continuum, the past can feel inescapable, the present seems overwhelming, and the future is unimaginable. There are things you can do to change the situation, but first you have to be ready.
Are you ready to work?
It takes a lot of courage to ask for help because you must be ready to do the work, and sometimes the work is hard. At Counseling for Restoration, we'll spend the necessary time to reflect on and discuss past traumatic events but it's important to know that talking is only one step in our process.
Together, we'll come up with a plan that uses both talk and action to help you process both past events and any false beliefs that have grown out of them. We'll use exercises proven to help stop your brain from reacting as if it's in danger. And we'll find ways to bring stability and beauty to your life, in even the most difficult situations.
Are you ready to feel safe and be seen?
Traumatic events from the past can make you begin the counseling process feeling as if you have no power or control. You may believe, somewhere in the recesses of your thinking mind, that you do have control, but your body might disagree. You may experience flashbacks or nightmares or fear or dissociation. You might become trapped in feelings, beliefs and actions that don't serve you, and you may not understand why you and the people in your life act the way they do. It's even possible that you no longer or have never felt as though anyone saw and accepted the real you.
It is our greatest hope that, when you are with us, you will feel safe enough to be completely seen, heard and understood.
Are you ready to try something new?
The body often knows and holds onto what the mind is unwilling or unable to release. By using proven therapeutic interventions like Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Ego State Therapy, and Mindfulness we'll help you process your trauma, desensitize distressing images, and reprocess negative beliefs into more adaptive ones.
Are you ready to start writing the next chapter of your life?
Trauma is not something that simply goes away or is solved overnight. Nor is it something you can talk away. Everyone's journey differs and everyone processes in their own way and their own time. But one thing is true: whether you've experienced a small setback or a major trauma, it's easy to lose parts of yourself in the process. By reflecting on your past, processing your realities, and releasing your pain, you can improve your relationships, break through emotional barriers, overcome limitations, and rebuild your life into something even better than before.
All you have to do is be ready.
